T-Mobile is prioritizing customer needs over profits in certain situations.

I recall listening to the end of the 2005 World Series, won by the Chicago White Sox, once cell service was restored on my phone. Hurricane Wilma was a Category 3 storm, so it is easy to imagine the destruction in Jamaica after Category 5 Hurricane Melissa made landfall last week, with reports of widespread damage and power outages.

I learned after Wilma that connectivity is crucial for areas impacted by a hurricane. T-Mobile agrees, stating in a press release that they understand the importance of staying connected during this time. After such a significant storm, family and friends may be concerned about the well-being of those they have been unable to reach.

To assist worried customers in contacting those in affected areas, T-Mobile is removing charges for international calls, texts, and roaming in Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, and the Bahamas. This offer applies to all T-Mobile brands, including T-Mobile Postpaid and Prepaid, Metro, Assurance Wireless, UScellular, Mint, and Ultra. The waived charges are effective from Wednesday, Oct. 29, until Tuesday, Nov. 12.

T-Mobile will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates. Removing charges for subscribers benefits everyone involved, allowing those in Jamaica and nearby regions to communicate with concerned loved ones, and providing peace of mind to those in the U.S. who are anxious to hear from those affected by the storm.

T-Mobile subscribers in the U.S. should contact anyone they know who was affected by Hurricane Melissa.
