At IFA 2025, TCL introduced the Nxtpaper 60 Ultra, a smartphone designed to offer the visual comfort of e-paper without compromising modern performance. The key is the new Nxtpaper 4.0 display, a large 7.2-inch screen employing technology to simulate natural light, minimize glare, and remove flicker. TCL states it delivers a comfortable, paper-like visual experience that is certified to be gentle on the eyes, even adjusting its warmth at night to align with the body's circadian rhythm.

This appears to be a good approach, offering a full-color, fast display engineered for comfort instead of a limited e-ink screen. The Nxtpaper 60 Ultra has good features for its price: €499 (roughly $582 USD) for the 256GB model and €549 (about $640 USD) for the 512GB version.
It features a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chipset, up to 24GB of RAM, and a periscopic telephoto camera, a feature uncommon outside premium flagship phones. It also has stylus support and AI tools for functions like note summarization and real-time translation. Available accessories include a MagFlip and T-Pen Magic stylus.

TCL also presented a €249 (around $290 USD) Nxtpaper 5G Junior model, which uses the same eye-care technology for younger users and includes parental controls. Both phones demonstrate a commitment to "Technology for Good." If the Nxtpaper 60 Ultra's screen performs as expected, TCL could successfully combine a capable phone with a great reading experience.
