The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is rumored to include highly anticipated upgrades for folding phone users.

A small leak just hinted at the upgrades Fold owners have been begging for since 2021.
Samsung's enhancements to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, including its redesigned build and enhanced hinge, were noteworthy. However, the phone still suffered from subpar battery performance and sluggish power replenishment. Leaks now indicate that the company intends to resolve these problems in the Galaxy Z Fold 8, expected in 2025.
According to @kro_roe on X, the Fold 8 will have a more efficient internal configuration that maintains 45W charging while also providing a higher capacity battery.
Samsung has used the same 4,400 mAh battery since the Z Fold 3 in 2021, which has consistently resulted in unsatisfactory battery life in tests. The issue was compounded by the 25W charging speeds, which made it difficult to quickly recharge the Galaxy Z Fold.
Our tests showed that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 took nearly 90 minutes to fully charge from zero, and it didn't even reach 50% in half an hour, despite having a relatively small battery.
There are rumors that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will feature a bigger battery, with one report claiming a capacity of about 5,000 mAh. Even a slight increase would be a big improvement over the 4,400 mAh battery that Samsung has been using for four generations.
While Samsung is expected to further boost the charging speed of its 2026 flagship series, with reports indicating 60W wired charging (at least for the Galaxy S26 Ultra), the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will apparently be limited to 45W. Given its thinner design, heat limitations, and dual-battery design, this is still a considerable and achievable advance.
The wireless charging capabilities are still unknown. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is limited to 15W, which is less than competing products from Chinese manufacturers that reach 30W or more. There is no sign as to whether Samsung will improve wireless charging on the Fold 8, so it will likely remain one of the few areas needing improvement.
It is anticipated that the Fold 8 will concentrate on improvements as competition rises.
Since the Fold 7 featured the most significant design changes in years, the Fold 8 is expected to be a refinement. In addition to battery and charging improvements, the Fold 8 may also include S Pen compatibility, enhanced durability, and a nearly invisible crease.
Given that Apple is predicted to release its first foldable iPhone in 2026, Samsung will face increased pressure this time around, which is certain to disrupt the foldable phone market.
However, if Samsung delivers on these two improvements, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be a more competitive product in its category and a tougher competitor.
