The latest Android 16 QPR2 Beta lets Pixel users customize their app icons.

The December Pixel Feature Drop will bring a cool new feature to Pixel users.
Google has launched Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2, the newest quarterly platform release that will become the December Pixel Feature Drop. Those enrolled in the Android 16 QPR Beta Program can install the release by navigating to Settings > System > Software updates > System update. The update includes the Android security update dated September 5, 2025.
The Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, 9a, 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, and Pixel Tablet all support the beta update.
A key change in the update involves new Themed icon shapes. In Settings > Wallpaper & style > Icons, users can now select from five shapes for their app icons.
The Display & touch settings page has a Material 3 redesign. Health Connect, which previously helped health and fitness apps share data, will now automatically track steps using the phone's sensors.
Google says Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2 has reached Platform Stability, allowing app developers to concentrate on testing and finalizing their app designs. Developers can prepare their apps for final release without concern for last-minute adjustments.
The update's build number is BP41.250822.010. Google's Release Notes mention a new Android developer verification requirement, linking people or organizations to their Android applications. This is intended to hinder malicious actors from spreading malware, fraud, impersonation, or other harmful apps anonymously.
From September 2026, Android will require apps to be registered by verified developers to be installed on certified Android devices in certain regions, except for installs via the Android Debug Bridge (ADB).
