The device has an IP68 certification, now common for flagship models. The rear includes a circular camera module with a 50 MP primary lens, a 12 MP telephoto lens, and an 8 MP ultrawide lens. The front camera is 10.7MP.
Internally, Huawei provides two processor choices based on the RAM configuration. The 12 GB RAM version uses the Kirin 9020B, while the 16 GB variant is equipped with the Kirin 9020A. Both options are available with 256 GB or 512 GB of storage.
Here is the pricing structure in China:
* 12 GB + 256 GB – CNY 4,199 (approximately $590 USD)
* 12 GB + 512 GB – CNY 4,699 (approximately $660 USD)
* 16 GB + 256 GB – CNY 4,699 (approximately $660 USD)
* 16 GB + 512 GB – CNY 5,199 (approximately $730 USD)
Currently, it is exclusive to China and is unlikely to be released elsewhere. It will probably not be available in the US. Importing is an option for interested buyers, but it's important to note the absence of Google services and other software limitations.
Huawei's Take on the iPhone Air and Galaxy Edge
The Mate 70 Air appears to be Huawei's response to the iPhone Air and Galaxy Edge, offering a thin and stylish flagship that aims to deliver both performance and battery life. Huawei aims to demonstrate the possibility of a slim device that maintains high performance.
iPhone Air review: Pointless until you actually hold it in your hand
Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Review: Slim body, slim battery
The 7-inch display approaches tablet dimensions, so using it for calls may appear awkward despite its thinness.
Can Huawei’s Air Succeed?
The trend toward thin phones has not gained widespread popularity. Samsung is said to have canceled plans for the Galaxy S26 Edge, and the iPhone Air's sales are below Apple's expectations. Huawei may be entering a challenging market.
The Mate 70 Air has potential because it is more affordable in China, has good specifications, and includes a large battery. This might be what Huawei needs to differentiate itself.
