The OnePlus 15's durability is being questioned amid marketing hype.

OnePlus is making durability its big flex this year, but will that be enough to compete?
OnePlus has announced that the #OnePlus15 in Sand Storm is coming soon.
The OnePlus 15 will feature a metal frame treated with micro arc oxidation (MAO), typically used in aerospace. This process creates a durable, ceramic-like coating, offering enhanced protection against scratches from everyday wear and tear. It remains to be seen how this new phone will withstand rigorous durability tests. The MAO process also allows for unique finishes and colors, such as the Sand Storm color with a matte, textured appearance.
MAO enhances scratch resistance and maintains a lighter weight compared to alternatives like titanium or ultra-tough glass. While high-end phones use titanium frames or tough display glass, MAO offers a unique advantage for OnePlus.
The OnePlus 15 will also feature a redesigned rectangular camera setup, similar to the OnePlus 13T, replacing the circular design.
It will have a large 7,000mAh battery supporting 120W wired and 50W wireless charging. The display is expected to be a 6.78-inch panel with a 1.5K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate, offering smoother visuals. The alert slider might be replaced with a customizable button.
Internally, the device may include the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, at least 12 GB of RAM, and a new camera setup with a 50 MP telephoto lens.
OnePlus is teasing a US launch, suggesting a wider global availability than the OnePlus 13, which launched in China in October 2024 but didn't reach other markets until January. The OnePlus 15 might be available sooner, potentially before the end of the year.
