There are signs that T-Mobile may be reducing CEO Mike Sievert's influence.

T-Mobile's soon-to-be former CEO was MIA at a recent high-profile event.
T-Mobile Executive VP & CFO Peter Osvaldik stated in September 2025 that a successful company needs solid long-term succession plans. He affirmed that Srini is part of the succession plan for a future leader.
Osvaldik clarified that Sievert and T-Mobile's Board will make the final decision on any succession plan. He noted it's normal for T-Mobile to plan for leadership changes and that Srini is expected to take over for someone eventually.
Osvaldik praised Gopalan's industry knowledge and experience at T-Mobile. He noted Gopalan and Sievert have been leading the company together, implying recent achievements are due to both of them.
While T-Mobile hasn't officially named Gopalan as the successor, they have suggested that he is a likely candidate for the position.
Osvaldik said that Mike will only be replaced by someone who can effectively lead the company. He stressed the importance of maintaining strong leadership during the company's current success.
Sievert's contract as CEO extends to 2028, having been in the role since 2020. This situation differs from typical succession planning, with Sievert potentially departing earlier than expected.
Sievert was key during the 5G infrastructure development, but as the company expands into fiber and seeks to evolve beyond its "Uncarrier" approach, the current CEO may no longer feel aligned with the company's direction.
