Trump is nearing a victory regarding TikTok.

The president signed an executive order bringing TikTok closer to becoming 80% American-owned.
The law that went into effect in January stipulates that TikTok will be banned in the U.S. unless its owner, ByteDance, sells 80% of its assets to investors not based in China. U.S. authorities were concerned that the app was collecting Americans' personal data on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party and displaying CCP propaganda to U.S. TikTok users.
Oracle, Silver Lake, Michael Dell, and Fox Corp are reportedly among the investors in the joint venture. The company's board will primarily consist of Americans, while ByteDance is expected to retain a 20% share. The White House has stated that Oracle will manage the app's algorithm and data. The joint venture is valued at an estimated $14 billion.
During the executive order signing, Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the U.S. joint venture would be worth approximately $14 billion. Prior valuations of TikTok's U.S. assets ranged from $20 billion to $100 billion, depending on whether TikTok's algorithm was included. The algorithm uses data, such as the videos users watch, like, share, and comment on, to determine the videos shown in their feeds.
Several questions remain unanswered, such as whether U.S. users will need to install a separate U.S. TikTok application. Concerns have also been raised regarding the content that the app might display, especially given that the investor group acquiring TikTok includes allies of Trump. After accusing Jimmy Kimmel of focusing his jokes on Republicans, leading Trump to threaten a lawsuit against ABC, Trump said he would like TikTok's algorithm to be "100% MAGA."
However, both the president and vice president have clarified that TikTok will not serve as a MAGA propaganda platform. Trump stated that while he would prefer it to be "100% MAGA," it will not be the case, and everyone will be treated fairly.
Vance said that they want the business to make content decisions based on business and user interests, and they believe this will occur.
Regulatory agencies must approve the deal before it can be finalized. Trump mentioned that he spoke with China's President Xi Jinping last week. He stated that they discussed TikTok and that Xi gave the go-ahead.
Initially, some in the media believed that Trump had changed his mind about TikTok after his son Barron suggested the app could help him win the youth vote. However, Trump's aim has always been to bring TikTok under American control, and he is now close to achieving this goal.
