Many complaints appear to originate from Michigan, with one Downdetector user reporting issues in Grand Rapids. Within 30 minutes, 36 Verizon customers reported phone service disruptions. Apple iPhone users on Verizon, Visible, and Straight Talk are seeing an SOS icon, indicating a lack of connection to their wireless provider.
One user in Pontiac, Michigan, reported that voice service was unavailable on all iPhones, with home internet also affected. An Xfinity Mobile device, which uses Verizon's network, was also down. Another user reported being down in Midland, MI, and that support was unavailable. A Visible Wireless user in Dearborn, MI, reported their iPhone was in SOS mode. One user asked if anyone had successfully contacted customer service, emphasizing the impact on their work caring for elderly patients.
A Verizon customer on X humorously shared that they paid their phone bill early, thinking service was shut off, only to realize the outage was the cause.
Visible, a Verizon subsidiary, experienced a surge in complaints, from 2 at 11:55 pm ET to 285 at 12:25 am ET. 70% reported no signal, 19% reported a total blackout, and 10% cited phone issues. Complaints came from Detroit, mid-Michigan, and Southwest Michigan.
Straight Talk had 378 complaints on Downdetector at 12:20 am, up from 1 at 11:50 pm. 67% reported no signal, 17% reported phone issues, and 16% reported mobile internet problems.
