Verizon is changing the way workers in one city perform their jobs.

Police officers and city staff get new Verizon-powered tools.
Verizon is partnering with the City of Buffalo and the Buffalo Police Department (BPD) to provide advanced communication tools. The upgrade will give city employees and BPD officers real-time information access, better awareness of their surroundings, and secure ways to communicate.
Frank DiPisa, Verizon Business government sales director for the Northeast, stated in September 2025 that this partnership reflects Verizon's dedication to providing public safety agencies with state-of-the-art technology for modern policing.
The Buffalo Police Department will receive several upgrades, including 5G UW smartphones with preloaded law enforcement applications. This will allow officers to use secure, city-provided devices instead of personal phones for work. The department will also receive connected laptops for quick data access in patrol cars or at the scene, as well as upgraded routers with mobile broadband to keep temporary command centers and patrol units connected.
The agreement also includes Verizon Frontline Network Slice, which ensures reliable connectivity for critical operations during major events or periods of high network traffic.
This partnership expands Verizon's presence in Buffalo. Verizon is the exclusive wireless partner of the Buffalo Bills and the new Highmark Stadium. Verizon Frontline, a platform created with first responders over 30 years, is designed to meet the specific connectivity needs of public safety personnel.
Equipping police officers and city workers with enhanced communication technology is beneficial, especially in situations where quick access to dependable information is crucial. Other carriers are also exploring similar solutions; T-Mobile, for example, has tested using satellites and drones to maintain connectivity for emergency teams during natural disasters.
