Original story below:
Many Verizon customers are experiencing outages, with devices showing SOS or satellite mode.
A store employee reportedly told a user that the outage is nationwide. There is no estimated time for a fix, but employees have been told service could return in around 12 hours.
Potentially over 50 percent of users are without service. Downdetector has received at least 23,544 reports, indicating a widespread problem.
The issue began around 12 p.m. ET.
Some users experience intermittent service, while others have none at all. In some households, service varies between users, suggesting certain smartphone models are affected. However, one user stated that she and her husband have the same phone, but only hers is affected.
The issue affects both cellular and fiber-optic internet, impacting even Frontier, which Verizon is acquiring. Consequently, many customers have lost both cellular and internet connections.
Customer support also appears to be affected, possibly due to a high volume of calls.
The issue seemingly does not extend to Verizon's MVNOs.
Some users report that Verizon representatives are unaware of the outage, possibly because of the Labor Day holiday weekend.
There is currently no known solution, and restarting devices does not resolve the problem.
