Verizon predicts mobile security will face major challenges in 2025, potentially due to vulnerabilities in phones.

A new Verizon report says businesses are facing a mobile threat surge – and most aren’t ready for what’s coming.
The rise of generative AI in the workplace is expanding the attack surface for companies. According to a recent report, 34% of organizations are concerned about AI-driven attacks increasing their vulnerability, and 38% anticipate AI making ransomware more dangerous.
The report found that 93% of companies say their employees use generative AI on mobile devices every day, with 64% citing data compromise through this use as their biggest mobile risk. Despite these concerns, only 17% of organizations have implemented specific protections against AI-assisted attacks.
According to Chris Novak, VP of Global Cybersecurity Solution at Verizon Business, the combination of AI threats and human error presents a significant risk. Internal tests revealed that 39% of employees clicked on malicious links in smishing attempts. Novak emphasized that businesses must adapt their security to address AI-assisted attacks and support secure technology use among employees.
Verizon's report highlights the need for a comprehensive approach to mobile and network security. Organizations are increasing spending and reevaluating security strategies to combat increasingly complex cyberattacks. Integrating mobile and network security enables businesses to maintain productivity and manage risks effectively.
Verizon has been actively enhancing its cybersecurity offerings, including recent updates to its Digital Secure Home service and the Verizon Protect app. The company's focus extends to providing cybersecurity guidance for businesses, particularly smaller ones that may lack extensive IT resources.
The report indicates that while defenses are improving, attackers are also advancing, especially with the integration of AI. It advises caution when clicking unfamiliar links, particularly on work devices. With Verizon's ongoing updates in the security sector, further announcements for business users are anticipated. Other carriers are also increasing cybersecurity efforts, such as T-Mobile's recent launch of its Cyber Defense Center.
