Verizon's new broadband strategy is likely to be closely monitored by T-Mobile and AT&T.

Verizon's acquisition of Starry, a top mobility provider, will help to grow its mobile and broadband leadership. Starry has shown an original and effective way of providing fast internet in multi-dwelling unit environments. Integrating Starry's technology and skills will speed up Verizon's fixed wireless access, providing millions of new users with a good broadband option at an affordable price. According to Verizon EVP and President of Global Networks and Technology Joe Russo in October 2025, this system is cheaper and faster to build, and it effectively addresses the challenges of urban areas by utilizing Verizon's current fiber and mmWave resources.

The acquisition follows a leadership change at Verizon, where CEO Hans Vestberg is leaving and Dan Schulman is taking over, with expectations of a new company vision.

Part of that vision includes increasing fixed wireless services. Verizon plans to increase its fixed wireless subscribers to between 8 and 9 million by 2028 and to have broadband service accessible to 90 million homes by that time.

The largest carrier in the US is clearly not slowing down, and with Starry's help, Verizon's fixed wireless future has been significantly strengthened.
