Washington residents are protesting a proposed Verizon tower due to unspecified concerns.

But they all want better cell coverage for safety.
Kenneth Baldwin of The Towers, 2025, said that some people have stated they would not buy property near a cell tower. He recalled a New Canaan tower application hearing where residents said they would not have bought their homes if they had known there was no cell service.
Verizon's project intends to resolve a significant dead zone for both cellular and emergency radio communications in the area. Authorities and first responders recognize the coverage gap along Routes 202 and 341 as a safety concern. However, many locals are unsure if a 140-foot steel structure is the best solution. They are requesting that the town and Verizon investigate less noticeable options, such as small cell installations on utility poles or rooftop antennas.
The Washington North 2 Facility theoretically solves a real coverage issue. However, the reality is challenging, as residents clearly oppose it. Verizon's technical and safety guarantees may meet regulatory requirements, but they do not completely address the concerns of people in New Preston.
