Xbox Series X will offer identical graphics to the base PS5 in Grand Theft Auto VI - GameGPU

As a result, the base version of the PlayStation 5 Slim with a disc drive and a 1 TB storage drive is now officially priced at $649.99, while the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital costs $599.99. Meanwhile, the flagship Xbox Series X with a disc drive has increased in price to $799.99, its disc-less version, the Xbox Series X Digital, costs $749.99, and the entry-level Xbox Series S models with 512 GB and 1 TB of storage cost $499.99 and $599.99, respectively. This makes Sony's base console with a disc drive $150 cheaper than its direct competitor, Microsoft.
Social media is buzzing about user XGREEN's claim that the Xbox Series X console will offer a better price-to-performance ratio in the action game Grand Theft Auto VI than the PlayStation 5. However, current market data for 2026 and the technical aspects of multiplatform development completely refute this claim. Following Sony's global increase in recommended retail prices in April 2026 and Microsoft's counter-move in August 2026, the balance of power in the hardware market has shifted significantly. Due to a shortage of semiconductor components and a sharp rise in the cost of memory chips amid the AI data center boom, the American corporation has significantly increased the price of its devices compared to its Japanese competitor.
When it comes to visuals and performance in Grand Theft Auto VI, there won't be any noticeable difference in graphics quality, draw distance, or texture detail between the standard PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. On paper, Microsoft's console does boast a more powerful graphics chip with full support for the AMD RDNA 2.0 architecture, which includes 52 compute units (CUs) clocked at 1.825 GHz and delivers 12.15 teraflops, compared to 36 CUs clocked at up to 2.23 GHz and 10.28 teraflops in the base PlayStation 5. Furthermore, the eight-core Zen 2 processor in the Xbox Series X runs at up to 3.8 GHz, compared to 3.5 GHz in its competitor, and a dedicated 10 GB of GDDR6 memory (out of a total of 16 GB) delivers 560 GB/s of bandwidth, compared to 448 GB/s on the Sony system. However, Rockstar Games builds its projects to a single technical standard for base consoles of the same generation, using identical graphics and asset settings at 30 frames per second, and the 18% difference in computing power is compensated for by dynamic resolution algorithms.
To date, Rockstar Games has exclusively showcased official footage from the PlayStation 5 console and hasn't released a single frame from Microsoft platforms. If players demand true technical superiority and maximum image quality in the upcoming release, the most powerful solution on the market is the enhanced PlayStation 5 Pro console with a 2 TB drive for $899.99, which outperforms both base systems in terms of hardware. The only significant advantage of the Xbox ecosystem remains the subscription service. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, at $22.99 per month, includes access to in-house releases on day one, while PlayStation Plus, at $10.99–$19.99 per month, doesn't include new exclusives immediately upon release.
