YouTube is experimenting with a polarizing new mobile design.

There are slight changes to the UI when playing videos and shorts on YouTube’s mobile apps.
The most prominent alteration is the movement of the video title, which is now located beside the channel's profile picture. The profile picture is now larger, which reduces the available space for the title, causing it to be shortened. Additionally, the username of the video uploader is displayed instead of the channel name.
Below the video player, the arrangement of buttons has also been modified. The text labels have been removed from the buttons, leaving only the icons. The notification bell icon has been relocated to this carousel.
The appearance of Shorts has also been updated. Users are reporting a redesigned interface during Shorts playback. The buttons have been made smaller and more streamlined. Interestingly, the double-tap gesture still displays the previous like icon along with the confetti effect.
This particular adjustment seems to be controversial, with some users expressing strong disapproval of the new icons. The reduction in icon size increases the visible area for the video, which was likely the objective of the design change.
Overall, the changes are not significant. Modifications to widely used digital platforms often generate strong reactions, and YouTube is no different. While these changes may not be ideal, they are not extreme. Users will likely adapt to the new design over time.
